Girls In Engineering is a vibrant initiative by the University of Toronto's Engineering Outreach Office that empowers girls in grades 3-6 through engaging online programs. Over four years I designed annual activity workbook based on that years specific theme.
In 2023, for the program's first in-person event, I designed a suite of promotional items to infuse the occasion with fun and empowerment, embodying the program's commitment to breaking barriers and fostering enthusiasm for engineering among young participants.
The Girls In program annually unveils a new theme, spotlighting trailblazing women in STEM fields. In crafting the activity workbooks, each week begins with an illustrated poster showcasing the featured scientist, followed by thoughtfully designed activity sheets segmented to enhance learning experiences.
The launch of Girls In Day, an immersive on-campus event for past participants, marked a pivotal moment in the program's evolution. 'Sticker Style' icons were crafted to symbolize empowerment and inclusivity, integrated across apparel, merchandise, and social media. These icons also adorned special mirrored certificates, affirming participants as future trailblazers while embodying the program's philosophy that interests in 'girly' things and excellence in STEM are not mutually exclusive.
Fueling excitement, Girls In Day unfolded on the @uoftengoutreach Instagram account, where a dynamic social media strategy brought the day to life. Engaging photos and videos filled the stories, playfully punctuated with our 'Sticker Style' icons, ensuring a brand-consistent and playful narrative for parents and the wider audience.
